one week at the grocery

75 hours at the grocery. Change of gloves every hour. This dome is constructed out of 150 LDPE gloves and two rolls of medical tape. The gloves are sealed to each other to form a continuous protective membrane. Clean air is blown in, creating a positive pressure environment within, maintaining the form until the fan is switched off.

This project was done as part of a workshop at the Department of Architecture at MIT, run by Tom Sachs and Nicholas de Monchaux. The focus of the workshop was bricolage and In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), looking at geodesic domes as a unifying geometry. It was published with a selection of other projects in how to build a geodesic dome.
